Congratulations to Nicole Poenitzsch on being named Superintendent of the Year (SOTY) by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) on September 28 at txEDCON. Royal ISD Superintendent Rick Kershner stated, "I am incredibly proud of Nicole for receiving this prestigious honor. Her dedication to education and leadership is truly inspiring. It’s been a privilege to work alongside her, and I look forward to continuing our collaboration as we strive to make a positive impact on our schools and communities."
Superintendent Poenitzsch is also a former Falcon! She taught in Royal High School in the 2005-2006 and 2007-2008 school years. Her first administration job was as Royal Junior High Assistant Principal from 2008-2010.
TASB Director Nick Phillips remarked, “We are so pleased to honor Nicole Poenitzsch with this award, which the entire committee agreed was well-deserved based on her dedication on behalf of all of Bellville’s students,” Phillips said. “She not only sees education as a means of opportunity for children, but she also is clearly very proud to be a Texas public educator.”
Candidates are selected for their leadership skills, dedication to enhancing educational quality, effective employee relations, student performance, and commitment to public engagement. The SOTY winner's district receives a $5,000 award, and the superintendent is presented with a custom ring. Each finalist's district also receives $1,000, sponsored by Balfour. (Read more here.)
